Perfect. Travel. Only.A New Destination Daily with all the best places to stay, things to do, and places to eat.

I came across an article on HuffPost entitled 7 Perks You Probably Didn't Know Hotel Staff Can Give You and I was excited to see what perks I was missing out. I thought that their list was not complete and left off many valuable services. HuffPost’s list consisted of

1. Restaurant recommendations.

2. Decoration of rooms for special occasions.

3. Transportation arrangements.

4. Advice on local attractions

5. Help secure rooms next to each other

6. Provide necessities for your pet

7. Provide small things you forgot to pack

If you break down these items between the services offered by a concierge and front desk receptionist, then most of these items are concierge services. These include restaurant recommendations and reservations, advice on local attractions, travel and transportation arrangements and help decorating a room. Concierges also provide help with luggage, dry cleaning and spa reservations. My experience staying at Westin Hotels is that the concierge will also provide you with a map so with details for runs or walks of 1, 3 and 5 miles.

The front desk staff can also provide services like room upgrades, late check out and forgotten accessories. One time, I planned a day trip to a nearby city and it turned out that I had to stay overnight. When I checked into my hotel, the front desk personnel was a lifesaver by providing me with a razor, shaving cream, toothbrush and toothpaste. I have also heard that if they can also lend you a charging cable from the many that are left over by other guests.

If you want to maximize the services that you can receive from front desk personnel, always sign up the hotel rewards program, assuming they have one. The sign up process is usually easy and quick. By doing so, you will be able to unlock a bunch of benefits which could include high speed internet service. Also, by being a rewards member, the front desk personnel will have greater flexibility to provide you additional benefits.

So next time you check into a hotel, don’t forget to ask them for something you need.
