Best Restaurants in Newport Rhode Island

Finishing up our food reviews of Newport Rhode Island, lets go over dinner restaurants. We ate at two restaurants that we highly recommend. First there was Jo’s American Bistro and the second one was the Mooring Seafood and Kitchen Bar.

For our first stop, let’s take a look at Jo’s American Bistro which is right near the International Tennis Hall of Fame. It is a traditional American restaurant that delivers on the food.

We decided to focus heavily on the appetizers since they looked so good on the menu. We started with the Humus Platter and Lobster Bisque. Then followed up with the Caesar Salad and the Duck and Lobster Quesadilla. Finally, we split the Lobster Salad Sandwich. Everything was good. We knew we chose well when they broad out the hot fresh bread which tasted great. I love it when restaurants score on the bread.

The stars of the evening were the Duck and Lobster Quesadilla and the Lobster Bisque. Jo’s American Bistro really knows how to incorporate lobster into their dishes. The Lobster Bisque had a rich but not too rich broth and there were large chunks of lobster in the soup which is becoming a rarity. As to the Quesadilla, I never had a dish that blended duck and lobster but Jo’s American Bistro really pulled it off. I have to say that I really enjoyed our meal at Jo’s American Bistro

As good as Jo’s American Bistro was, the Mooring Seafood and Kitchen Bar was even better. Why? They had an incredible view and vibe was really hopping. The Mooring is located at Sayer’s Wharf and the vibe is definitely casual seafront

We started with the New England Clam Chowder and the Lobster and Shrimp Fritters along with the warm bread. We then had the Pan Roasted Cod Sandwich and the Salmon.

Our only mistake was ordering the bread since it did not really look or taste that good. I would pass on that next time. As to the appetizers, the clear favorite was the fritter. It was so tasty, that we were tempted to order another one and skip dinner. But alas, we had our Cod and Salmon. Each of our entrees was very tasty. I should have gotten the recipes for both since I would love to cook these at home.

With such rich and tasty dishes, we unfortunately could not find any room for dessert. This was a major disappointment since we love desserts. This could have been one of the most enjoyable dinners that we have had on vacation. They had everything stating with the ambiance and followed up with the top quality food. So if you are in Newport, make sure you book a dinner reservation at Mooring Seafood and Kitchen Bar.
