Unclaimed Luggage: A Unique Shopping Experience

I am planning a trip to Atlanta and was curious what was around there.  After a little research, I found a store named Unclaimed Baggage in Scottsboro, Alabama.  This store is just 3 hours away but unfortunately, I will not be able to make it this trip.  The story of Unclaimed Baggage in intriguing thought.  They deal with unclaimed luggage from airlines, trains and buses.  Who knew this was a business?

Some Background and Interesting Information

Even though airlines deliver 99.5% of all bags to its customers straight away, there is a that .5% whose bags are delayed.  Out of all the luggage transported, airlines do lose .03% of all checked bags.  In that event, airlines pay out a claim to the affected passengers.  Airlines do spend three months trying to reunite luggage with the passengers.  But if they can not, airlines end up having to get rid of the luggage they end up finding.  What do they do with these pieces?

It turns out that Airlines sell unclaimed items Unclaimed Baggage.  Unclaimed Baggage then ships these bags to its warehouse for sorting and cleaning.  About a 1/3 off all unclaimed items are listed for sale by Unclaimed Baggage.  What is hard to believe that Unclaimed Baggage ends up putting up for sale and on its website about 7,000 unique items?

What Does Unclaimed Baggage Sell?

While most of the items are clothes, Unclaimed Baggage sells electronics, jewelry, phones, handbags, sunglasses, perfumes, watches and other assorted items.  Some of the interesting items that they have come across include a Space Shuttle Camera, Egyptian Burial Mask, Opium Scales, Live Rattlesnake and Zebra Skin with its head and tail.

As I review their site, I would consider buying an Ipad Mini for $154.99 which is 65% off the retail price and some earbuds which can range from 40% to 80% off.
