A question sweeping the internet that we thought to address, in a race between Joey Chestnut and Usain Bolt, who could eat a hot dog then run a 100-meter dash faster? This question gained new like when professional golfers got involved. The consensus among the golfers is that Joey Chestnut would win with some notable exceptions. Let’s break it down for you. The race would entail eating a hotdog (including the bun) at the starting line and then running 100 meters. For Joey Chestnut, he just won the Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest by eating 70.5 hotdog in 10 minutes. That comes out to be 8.5 seconds for each Hot Dog. In 2009, Usain Bolt ran 100 meters in 9.58 seconds. So the question is can Usain Bolt eat a hot dog faster than Joey Chestnut can run 100 meters. As point of reference, the 10th place finisher finished 30 hot dogs during the Nathan’s contest which corresponds to 20 seconds per hot dog. If we assume Usain Bolt can eat a hot dog in 20 seconds and his time for the 100 meters is 9.58, his total time would be 29.58 seconds. A normal person would take between 14 and 18 seconds to run 100 meters. If we use 20 seconds as the baseline for Joey Chestnut (he might be slower after eating a hot dog) and use his 8.5 second average time to eat a hot dog, he would come in at 28.5 seconds. A full second ahead of Usain Bolt. I think I erred on for the benefit of Usain Bolt because I do not think he can match his record time from 2009 (of 9.58 seconds). Now 16 years later, his time should be at least 1 second slower. Also, on the Usain Bolt side, it may take him longer than 20 seconds to eat a hot dog. I tried it and I came in at close to 35 seconds. I also used the average hot dog eating time for Joey Chestnut, he may be able to beat the average time with one hot dog by 1 or 2 seconds. If you factor in all of these variables, Joey Chestnut would beat Usain Bolt by 5 to 10 seconds.
