The Thrill of the Fall: A Skydiving Bucket List Addition

When I was on my honeymoon, I went bungy jumping in New Zealand and my wife freaked out on my attempt to throw away my life.  She made me promise not to do anything crazy like that which I reluctantly agreed to.  Now as I am older, I want to put together my bucket list.  Right at top of it is, sky diving.

Sky diving sends shivers down most people’s spines. Yet, for people like me, I love the adrenaline rush.  The allure of freefall is undeniable. I am both terrified and excited about the thought of plunging from an airplane and soaring through the air. It is a chance to confront fears, push boundaries, and experience a rush of adrenaline unlike any other.

I planned to originally go sky diving in college but it was too expensive for a college kid like me.  Nowadays, skydiving has experienced instructors and advanced safety equipment so it has become increasingly accessible and safe. The only downside is that you need to do your jump as a tandem jump (tethered to an instructor).

The acceleration to freefall should be the highlight of the jump.  After that, you float down and enjoy the breathtaking views of the landscape below.

The key question is where to go for this bucket list item.  I heard that these are the best places to go

  1. Mount Everest, Nepal: Jump from an altitude of 23,000 feet and land at either Ama Dablam Base Camp or Syangboche Airport.  It is an exhilarating experience with stunning mountain views
  2. Palm Jumeirah, Dubai: Experience the thrill of skydiving with views of the desert, sea, and skyscrapers
  3. Fox Glacier, New Zealand: Located in the Westland Tai Poutini National Park, this spot offers jumps from 9,000 to 16,500 feet with incredible views of the glacier and surrounding landscapes
  4. Hawaii, USA: With jumps ranging from 8,000 to 20,000 feet, it provides stunning aerial views of the islands, rainforests, and mountains
  5. Interlaken, Switzerland: Known for its dramatic Swiss Alps backdrop, Interlaken offers jumps from 14,000 feet with views of snowcapped peaks, lakes, and the Swiss countryside
  6. Cairns, Australia: Jumps over the Great Barrier Reef, providing views of pristine beaches, rainforests, and crystal-clear waters
  7. The Grand Canyon, USA: Jumps over the Grand Canyon offering spectacular views of the canyon
  8. The Andes Mountains, Chile: Jumps with breathtaking mountain views of the Andes
  9. Namib Desert, Namibia: Experience skydiving over the vast, red dunes of the Namib Desert, offering a unique and thrilling adventure

Unfortunately, all of these locations are too far for me to experience so more research will be needed for this bucket list item.
