Range Anxiety -- Travelling With an EV

Following up with my EV experience. I headed to Newport Rhode Island from New York. This is a trip of roughly 182 miles. As I plugged in my route, I saw that I could make it home without making a stop to charge my car. I was starting with a 82% charge and I would make it home with 13% left in the battery pack.

Ideally this would be a 4 hour drive. Unfortunately for me, the traffic added about 45 minutes to the trip. With that, I had to make a bathroom stop about half through. As we pulled into the rest stop on I95, I saw the Tesla chargers and decided to plug it during my pit stop. For the 10 minutes that I was charging for, we added another 20% to my batter charge so I ended up with a charge of 33% as opposed to the original 13%.

For people with weak bladders, charging an EV while making a bathroom stop should ease any range anxiety you may have. For those of you who do not need to stop periodically, then fully charge your car to 100% and expect to stop every 4 to 4.5 hours to recharge it.
