We have decided that Newport is a great foodie town. I don’t know if we were lucky or good but all of our choices were really tasty. I have to highlight two of them which is tough. The first one is Scratch Kitchen & Catering located in the Broadway section of Newport. We found out when we went there that they are known for their grilled cheese.

As much as we like to eat healthy, how can we pass up the specialty of the house? I have to say it could have been the best grilled cheese that I ever had. The blend of cheese along the toasted bread was a slice of heaven. We also ordered a cup of corn soup and a chicken Caesar wrap

Both were good but did not raise to the level of the grilled cheese. I have to say that Scratch Kitchen & Catering was a great lunch but not our best in Newport

The best lunch we had was at Cru Cafe. While Cru Cafe is both a breakfast and lunch place, we only can vouch for its lunch. The inside was clean and folksy with their motto of Part of the Cru everywhere. It was a fun place.

We could have gone with another grilled cheese but we opted for South County Caesar Salad and a Crusty Crab Burger.

What is a Crusty Crab Burger, you ask? It is a open sandwich with two Crab Cakes along with sesame slaw. While the salad was good, the highlight of the meal and possibly the trip was the Crab Cake Sandwich. These crab cakes were so tasty and flavorful. They were grilled to perfection. I was so happy with my meal that I did not want to finish my meal. But alas, we also ordered some dessert.

We decided to go crazy and ordered both a chocolate chip cookie and a brookie (double chocolate chip cookie with butter cream inside). These just added to our experience and we just had to be rolled out of Cru Cafe at the end because we were so full

We have to say that if you are in Newport, you should definitely stop by Cru Cafe for a meal or a snack because you will not be disappointed. This was our favorite place.
