The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (JNTA) announced an exclusive EV charging deal for the New Jersey Turnpike service centers with Applegreen Electric. What this means is that the 64 Tesla Superchargers that are on the NJ Turnpike will be removed. What that means is if you want to use a Tesla Supercharger, you will need to exit the NJ Turnpike and access these charges locally. Of course, this will add time to your trip.
Applegreen will install chargers that will be compatible with all EV’s. These new chargers will be initially installed by June 6th at the Vince Lombardi, Woodrow Wilson, Richard Stockton, James Fenimore Cooper, Joyce Kilmer, and Walt Whitman Service Areas. With additional service centers coming online later this year. Time will tell if their chargers are as quick as the Tesla Supercharger. From a quick review, it seems that their rates are higher than Tesla’s.
Time will tell if this is a good deal for consumers or just a good deal for the JNTA.
