I have been reading that Tesla sales are down in Europe and parts of the USA. A good portion of this decline is due to Elon Musk’s political involvement in the USA and politics in Europe.
Add to the fact that Tesla just released its updated Model Y. The sales of Model Y’s represented almost 59% of the vehicles sold by Tesla in 2024. The Model Y was released 5 years ago and it just had an update. From what I can see, it was more a tweak than a new release. In tech works, it would seem that they came up with a dot release as opposed to a new release. That means minor changes versus a new updated model.
Why I bring up the release is that Tesla’s car lineup is aging and is in dire need a new releases. Consumers will only buy the same car for a limited time. General Motors released this almost 100 year ago when they came up with planned obsolescence. The concept was that they would refine and update their cars so that consumers would buy the new ones even though their existing cars worked. It built GM into what was the largest car company in the world.
While much has changed in the last 100 years, the concept that people look for new and better models may have slowed down but it has not gone away. As a result, Tesla is in dire need to adapt certain qualities of the old school car manufacturers. This is true is they want to maintain their standing as the largest EV manufacturer. Just remember that the car industry is littered with companies that were a major player that ended up being irrelevant.
So while Tesla has a commanding lead, they should not take anything for granted. My recommendations is to stop pissing off their customers with political views that they do not hold. Also, Tesla needs to develop a better car release schedule to drive the customer’s desire to buy or lease new models.
If they fail to fix developing problems, I am sure that other car companies will continue to inch up with newer and better models over time. It may take awhile but, nothing is set in stone that Tesla will remain the largest EV manufacturer and may become a footnote in history.
