A Love Letter to Flakowitz: The Best Bagels in South Florida

After experiencing some of the best bagels in New York, I have traveled down to South Florida to experience some bagels here. Next up is Flakowitz of Boynton Beach. As way of background, the founders of Flakowitz ran a bakery on Long Island for decades. They served up some of the best Black and White Cookies. When they retired, they opened a new bakery here in South Florida. This bakery morphed into a bagel place in Boca Raton and a restaurant in Boynton Beach.
We decided to try their bagels to see how they stack up. For our taste test, we ordered our traditional plain bagel but we added an everything to our list.

Both bagels were fresh and had a nice golden sheen on them. They also had the crunch that separate average bagels to good bagels. On the everything side, they were light on the everything seasoning which distracted from our experience. The plain bagel hit all of the right notes with taste and feel. These bagels did not have the pretensions that they were made with NYC water for were specially made.
Our conclusion is that this is the best bagel we have had in Southern Florida. It felt and tasted like a real bagel (a real bagel is one from the New York area). We rate this as a solid 9.2 on our Florida scale (it would be lower on the NY scale but alas we do not need to take that into account now). We highly recommend Flakowitz of Boynton Beach (and not just for their bagels. More to come on their food and Black and White cookies)!
