Ode to the Great Philadelphia Export: The Philly Pretzel

Let’s settle this once and for all. When it comes to pretzels, there’s a clear winner, and it hails from the City of Brotherly Love: the Philly Pretzel Factory.

Now, I know what you might be thinking. “Auntie Anne’s? Buttery, soft, mall pretzels?” And while I respect Auntie Anne’s for what they are—a decent mall snack—they simply don’t hold a candle to the real deal.

The Philly Pretzel Factory Difference

So, what makes Philly Pretzels Factory pretzels superior? It’s a few key factors:

  • The Shape: Forget those perfectly symmetrical, uniform twists. Philly pretzels are gloriously imperfect, twisted into a unique shape that’s both fun to eat and maximizes surface area.  They also come in nuggets and pretzel sticks.
  • The Texture: A Philly pretzel boasts a delightful contrast: a slightly crispy exterior and a chewy, dense interior. None of that overly soft, almost doughy texture you get with other pretzels.
  • The Salt: The coarse salt sprinkled on top is the perfect complement to the pretzel’s flavor. It’s not too much, not too little, but just right.
  • The Simplicity: Philly pretzels are traditionally enjoyed plain, with maybe a squirt of mustard. No need for sugary coatings or fancy dipping sauces.  But if you are going to go with a dipping sauce, definitely try the cheese!

Philly Pretzel Factory Question

For $2, you can get one of the best pretzels around.  The key question is how do they make money on selling these pretzels for those prices?  Aunt Anne’s sells their pretzel for $6.99.  How does it compete?  This is not really my issue but they are quite the deal at the $2 price point.

A Taste of Philly

As much as we hate Philadelphia, we have to give props to their Philly pretzel.  We would love nothing more than to see one of our team beat up on one of Philadelphia’s teams and enjoy a Philly pretzel!!

So, the next time you’re in the mood for a pretzel, do yourself a favor and seek out a real pretzel from the Philly Pretzel Factory. Your taste buds will thank you.
