A Love Letter to Nonna’s Trattoria: Boca Raton’s Best-Kept Secret

Many people search for the best food in a city that they visit. No me, I look for mediocre ones when there are better options nearby. Off I went to to Nonna’s Trattoria in Boca Raton. I later found out that they participated in the Barstool Pizza Review. I do not know what it is but why are there so many Italian Restaurants in Boca Raton. With more opening seemingly every day. Do old people only like Italian food. There is a whole bunch of other food that they could eat. One of life’s great mysteries.

We started our meal with a pizza and a Caesar Salad.

As I suspected the Caesar Salad was just like any other Caesar Salad that you could order. It was good just like everywhere else. Just nothing special. Gone are the days that they make it at your table with the raw egg. The pizza was good (a 6.6 vote by Barstool). It was the best thing we ordered that night. The reality is that the pizza just does not compare with the best pizza in Florida or anywhere else. It was the best thing in our meal which says a lot about the other items!

For our entrees, we had Chicken Scarpiello, Veal Milanese and Rigatoni Bolognese. I did not expect the Chicken Scaarpiello to be as good as the one I had at 338 Restaurant by Mr. Sal. But I was not expected it to have very limited flavor on the other hand. The Rigatoni Bolognese was respectable. The Veal Milanese was tender but the flavoring was bland. I was feeling that this meal was prepared for people who had to limit their salt intake and they would have digestive problems if the food was too flavorful.

Our conclusion was that this restaurant is not on par with the better Italian restaurants in Boca Raton. I am not even talking about the top of the pyramid restaurants. Just the good ones. I can not envision going back with some many better Italian restaurants around.
