The One Thing I Always Travel With

I was out to dinner with a friend and we were discussing what was the one thing that we could not travel without. My friend mentioned extension cords since hotels did not have enough outlets and then he decided on his iPad and finally he concluded that he could not travel without his wife. I have to discount the last one since his wife was sitting next to him.

These were all good suggestions but I am going in a different way. On my list there was only two items, Dryer Sheets and Wipes. I never leave home without these. The Dryer Sheets are key for me since I typically pack workout gear along with my other clothes. My running shoes can develop a quite an odor that can cross over to my clothes. Not a great development. I put a couple of Dryer Sheets in my shoes and another couple in my suitcase. That way, my clothes smell clean when I take them out of my bag.

But even more important that Dryer Sheets, are my Wipes. I have learned that airplanes and hotel rooms are filled with germs. On planes, they never really clean the trays or the seats. The first thing I do on a plane with wipe down the tray table, the seat and the buckle. I get strange looks but I feel better.

As to a hotel room, I have read enough articles to know that cleaning people do not have enough time to spend in each room to thoroughly clean the room. As a result, I use my Wipes to clean the surfaces in the room, the light switches, door knobs and especially the TV remotes. I used to get sick a lot when I traveled but with my liberal use of Wipes, I have cut that down significantly.

If you are off for any trip, I can not argue with your desire to take extension cords and your iPad but I would never leave home without my Dryer Sheets and Wipes.
