Best Breakfasts in Newport Rhode Island

We headed to Newport for the weekend and the highlight of the drip was definitely the food. As you would expect, we started off each day with a full breakfast. We enjoyed two breakfast places with each having their own character.

We started at Annie’s which is on Bellevue right near the International Tennis Hall of Fame. This non-descript restaurant is a beloved breakfast and lunch spot known for old school diner atmosphere, generous portions, and classic American comfort food. While it might not have the same level of upscale flair as some other Newport eateries, the food is the major attraction. We had pancakes, French toast and eggs.

By far the best was the pancakes. The French toast did not hold a candle to them. As soon as we sat down, they served us fresh squeezed orange juice which was the best we have had in a while. This breakfast hit the right spot after working up an appetite doing the Cliff Walk.

The best breakfast we had was at the Corner Cafe. The Corner Cafe is a popular spot in the Broadway District is known for its creative and delicious menu that blends classic American comfort food with international influences. We had about a 15 minute wait for a table. The line moves pretty quickly. The Corner Cafe has a lively and welcoming vibe.

We ordered the Portuguese Sweet Bread Scrambler and Cinnamon French Toast I was concerned that it would have lamb stomach like most sweet breads had. Fortunately, this dish was only Portuguese French toast topped with scrambled eggs, chourico, onion, feta and roasted red peppers (I ordered it minus the chourico).

The French Toast was good but the Portuguese Sweet Bread Scrambler was on another level. This dish could be the best breakfast that I have ever had. The potatoes themselves were note worthy on how tasty they could be. The only issue you could have with the scrambler is that the eggs and the toast were together so you may have challenges with the syrup dripping on the eggs. I feel that the combination of these two really add to the experience.

As you would expect, the Corner Cafe was the real gem of the trip. The food and atmosphere were beyond expectation. If you are in Newport, do not miss a meal at the Corner Cafe!!
