I am getting ready for a trip and I have been looking up what to pack. Realizing that I had limited space to pack in, I decided that I was not asking the right question. With this light bulb going off in my head, I started to think about what not to pack!! This is my first cut at what leave at home and not put in your suitcase:
- Multiple Pairs of Jeans: Jeans are heavy and take up a lot of space. One or two pairs should be enough.
- Excessive Toiletries: Most hotels provide basic toiletries, and you can always buy what you need at your destination
- Bulky Electronics: Unless absolutely necessary, leave items like hairdryers and large cameras at home. Most hotels will have hairdryers in the room.
- Too Many Shoes: Stick to versatile pairs that can be used for multiple occasions. While it is easy to convince yourself you need a second pair of shoes, but you can usually get by with one pair for the entire trip
- Books: Consider using an e-reader or downloading audiobooks to save space
- Valuables: It is best to leave expensive jewelry and other valuables at home to avoid the risk of loss or theft
- Extra Credit Cards: Bringing too many cards can make it harder to realize if one goes missing.
- Laundry Detergent: You can buy detergent at your destination instead of wasting space in your toiletry bag.
Remember the key rule when packing, bring as little as possible on your trip. You can always buy what you need if you forget something or need more.
