Luggage Losers — Interesting Facts About Airlines

We found this site Luggage Losers which was started when the developer’s girlfriend lost her luggage on a flight. I am fascinated on the source of the data on the site. The developer does not go into it. He just reports that he has robot scrapers that scour sites for people talking about losing their luggage and he also says that data is from 4,316 live sources. I do not know how accurate this data is. Let’s assume for now that it is mostly accurate because I am transfixed by the data.

There is some interesting information on the site. For example, in the USA, Frontier and Spirit are worst airlines relative to the probability of losing your luggage (3.4% and 3.1% respectively). Out of the major USA carriers, Delta fares the worst with a 2.33% change of losing your luggage.

The best USA airline relative luggage is Allegiant Air with only a .21% change of losing your luggage. Out of the major USA Airlines, Southwest (.61%) is the best relative to not losing your luggage.

Tooling around on the sister site, Southwest has had no reported accidents since 1970 which is kind of amazing. But they do report that there is a 1 in 34,000,000 chance of dying in a Tesla which is better than Delta (at 1 in 24,000,000 with its last crash in 2006).

Also you have a better chance of surviving a launch in the Russian rocket (chance of dying 1 in 105) then in a Nasa rocket (1 in 65). I wonder if he could generate comparison data for a Lyft vs a Uber?
